The Arc XII A1–A12 SEND continuum breaks learning into meaningful small-step objectives, helping practitioners see where a pupil is working and recognise progress that may sit between broader attainment measures. Progression is mapped across the subjects of the National Curriculum, alongside Preparation for Adulthood, giving schools a broad and connected framework for recognising progress beyond the core subjects.

This means practitioners can follow meaningful progression across areas such as communication, literacy, mathematics, science, the wider curriculum and the knowledge and skills pupils need for increasing independence and adulthood. Arc XII provides a shared structure for understanding what a pupil can do, what progress looks like within and between stages, and what may come next, all while professional judgement remains with the practitioner.
